Embraer, a Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, recently showcased its Legacy 450 corporate jet in several cities in Asia including Bangkok at Don Muang international Airport. ASEANflyer.com crew did not miss a chance to visit this new executive jet.
The Embraer have various product lines i.e. commercial planes, military aircrafts and executive jets. The Legacy 450 is in ‘Embraer Executive Jets’ business unit which produce private jets for executives and businessmen.
Claudio Camelier, vice-president of sales for Middle East and Asia Pacific for Embraer Executive Jets presented the Legacy 450 and talked about the business jet market in Southeast Asia. He told that the ratio of business jets to population in Asia-Pacific is much lower than that in Europe and the United States. However, he can see high growth potential in the business jet market in this region. China and ASEAN are base of many high-growth businesses which private jet or business jet can take a role.
“The private jet is like a time machine,” said Camelier. Its clear advantage is a considerable saving in time. Unlike inflexible commercial flight schedules, customers can easily manage their own timetables and fly directly to their desired destinations without waiting for connecting flights at transit hubs. For the chiefs of businesses, time is the most precious commodity. Despite its higher cost of the private jet compared with commercial flight, it gives them miniature office and time efficiency. It is like a tool to make money for a business, therefore there are now more and more private jet owners/operators.
Although the Embraer is a veteran player in commercial and military aircraft market, the company is a relative newcomer to the business jet market. However, being new entrant brings about some advantages over its competitors.
In contrast to the established players, Embraer always comes up with novel designs and the latest technologies for its products.
When we got on the displayed jet, our first impression was the cabin’s spacious size which surpasses many business jets we used to visit recently. As a picture shown below, Camelier can stand upright in the cabin. This is the strong point that makes the Legacy 450 truly outstanding. Embraer boasts having the largest cabin in its class, measuring 6 feet in height and 24 feet in length. That means the Legacy 450 is the largest in Mid-Light Business Jet Segment. In addition, the cabin has completely flat floor which is another advantage over other business jets.
The Legacy 450 can carry 7-9 passengers, depending on the order of customers. Normally, the owners have a choice to adjust the private jet interior according to their styles, intended usages and budgets (they can decorate with diamond if they want). However, in a standard configuration, the jet can carry 7-9 passengers. When we pass through a door, we will face a forward two-place side-mounted couch that looks very relaxing. We can often take a rest here because there is a refreshment center nearby.
The Legacy 450 cabin is extremely quiet compared with other executive jets. Its first-rate aircraft pressurization system keeps cabin altitude at a comfortable 6,000 feet at the aircraft’s ceiling of 45,000 feet. Certainly, when the jet flies not higher than 6,000 feet, the cabin pressure is equal to air pressure of that level, leaving passengers feeling refreshed upon arrival at their destination.
Cabin Management System provides full control of most cabin components. Passengers can also control some components especially inflight entertainment via the individual touch screen control panels beautifully mounted in their seats.
Another feature of the Legacy 450 is that two center club seats fully berth to create beds. Most of private jets give priority to privacy, flexible schedule and time saving, but it cannot offer a high standard of comfort compared to the commercial first class which may provide flat-bed seats and private cabin. But, the Legacy 450 seat berthing can overcome that limitation. Camelier said that this is one of the cutting-edge innovations that the newcomer like Embraer Executive Jets introduce to impress the customers.
The jet is equipped with a satellite telephone and a broadband internet system, so businessmen can always do their works during the flights, without wasting their precious time.
Camelier told that Embraer took a considerable time to produce gorgeous and contemporary interior design, in order to impress every passenger at the very first moment they get on the aircraft and the whole time they fly. The Embraer also paid close attention to the decoration with materials which mimic wood and metal, for the purpose that the passengers feel desirable in the long run. Besides, the Embraer emphasizes on the reliability and simplicity of the maintenance. When the aircrafts need to be repaired or adjusted, customer can easily receive the company’s professional service.
The lavatory of the Legacy 450 feels luxurious and comfortable. The floor is decorated with stone and easy to clean up. Next to the toilet, there are a wardrobe and internal baggage compartment at the rear of the aircraft which is able to use as a dressing room. There is also an externally accessible baggage compartment for the luggage that passengers do not need in the cabin.
